Rifle Saftey


During NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course, you will learn the safe and proper handling of the carbine or short barrel rifle. Techniques that will be taught include shooting positions, sighting in your rifle, and target identification.


The NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course will provide:

  • Knowledge about safe handing, storage, and general firearms safety
  • Rifle maintenance
  • Shooting fundamentals and rifle operation
  • Proper use and handling
  • Proper stance and shooting positions
  • Reloading and clearing your rifle
  • Malfunction and immediate action drills
  • Certificate of Completion

 Student Requirements:

  • Protective eyewear and hearing protection (CPTS can provide)
  • 100 rounds of ammunition
  • Serviceable rifle which will be inspected for safety and functionality by CPTS firearms instructors. Rifles found to be un-serviceable will not be allowed on the firing line.
  • Rifles should have two or more magazines (more is better)
  • Closed toe shoes required
  • Long pant or knee pads
  • Hat and sunscreen recommended
